Today marks the forty year anniversary of the passing of rock legend Jimi Hendrix who not only was a great artist but also a musical innovator for what became known as his trademark sound of feedback and controlled distortion while playing his electric guitar.
His showy performances onstage included such things as playing with his teeth, playing while his guitar was behind his back and burning his guitar on stage.
The flamboyant acts onstage took a back seat to his performances in the studio where he left behind a legacy of well-known recordings such as: Purple Haze
